— Where did you study and how did you get your start in the industry?

I started working whilst I was still at university, designing sets and costumes for theatres products and assisting some very talented production designers and costume designers on commercials and TV dramas. At the same time I started styling small viral and music videos. After a couple of years I moved more specifically into costume and styling for music videos, commercials and short films.

— How would you describe what you do?

Designing and styling costumes for a huge variety of briefs. It’s all about creating characters. The director has a vision and we work closely together to bring it to life. The art director creates a world and I create the people that live in it, whether it’s the present day, past or future, from imagination or real life.

— What is your favourite thing about your job and which project are you most proud of?

I love doing something new all the time. Every job is different, it’s really exciting. I love the research part because if feeds my mind and I always learn new things. I also love the collaboration between departments, working together on ideas. I am most proud of my construction based projects. Each one is such a stimulating new challenge and so rewarding to achieve. For example, the Trident commercial with OneInThree, which was about two years ago and very early on in my career but still stands out in my memory.

— What are you working on at the moment, what’s next?

Today I am making some costumes for my trip to Burning Man. I am intrigued about the experiment of trading my creations for survival in the desert. I have some exciting projects lined up with some musicians when I get back.
